The evidence-based model used in our treatment approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – Enhanced (CBT-E) and CBT-E for adolescents.
The treatment is on out-patient basis and includes a comprehensive assessment and comprehensive treatment:
– Specialized and comprehensive clinical assessment: first a specialized psychotherapist will do an assessment to establish a diagnosis
– CBT-E psychotherapy: conducted by a clinical psychologist specialized in CBT-E. The length and frequency of the treatment will vary depending on the presenting disorder.
– Psychiatric management: a consultation with a psychiatrist will be recommended when the initial assessment suggests that a psychiatric treatment will be helpful for the co morbidities –mostly anxiety disorders and depression and/or to monitor suicidal risk. The frequency of the visits will vary case by case and can range from once weekly to once monthly depending on the presentation.
– CBT-E medical management: the patient is then referred to a medical doctor who will do a thorough psycho-education on medical risks, monitor physical health and treat medical complications if needed (after a complete physical examination and full blood test). Medical risk will be monitored throughout treatment. The frequency of the visits will vary depending on the initial medical presentation and evolution of the disorder. It can range from by-weekly visits in acute cases to monthly visits in stabilized patients.
– CBT-E nutritional counseling: The dietitian interventions and frequency of visits will vary depending on the psychotherapy used. It can range from by-weekly visits to monthly visits.
The core of the treatment is psychotherapy. With children and adolescents, their parents will be involved in the treatment.
