Professional Role(s) and qualifications:
I am currently a Band 5 Mental Health Support Worker. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology & Criminology.

  • I currently work as a therapeutic practitioner. This involves using various therapies and techniques to support individuals to improve the mental health and emotional well-being. I have a wide understanding of psychological theories due to my undergrad degree and my clinical work. I can engage in actions, approaches, or practices that promote healing while creating an environment that promotes a safe space.
  • I am skilled in the art of Active listening and have an extremely therapeutic approach.
  • Within my current role I am responsible for creating care plans on system one. These care plans outline the multiple facets relating to care, what is expected of us as practitioners, what is expected of the young person and what is expected of the carers. I would argue that in relation the need for timely care planning and intervention is of huge significance within the eating disorder service due to the physical health risks associated with being underweight. Care planning as a concept is something I feel I have knowledge and experience of. I ensure that care plans are person centred involving the young person and the family to ensure all needs are being met.
  • CBT-E is a treatment pathway that could be really useful to some of the young people I currently work with for when FT-AN is not appropriate. Usually the treatment involves all control being removed by the parents but not all young people have parents that are able to do this. Training in CBT-e would be useful in this case as I could support the Young person to take ownership of their care and understand the anxiety cycles around the challenges.

Training in CBT-E:
I currently have knowledge and understanding of CBT-E due to my degree and experience within my role. I have also completed a very short online CBT-E training course through the NHS training system STEPs.

Clinical Practice and Supervision:
My clinical interest is therapeutic work with young people suffering. I would like to have knowledge of CBT-E to be able to support young people that do not have parents that are able to support them in the FT-AN approach. Outside of my current role this knowledge/qualification will aid me to progress within my professional career and as a therapeutic practitioner.

Research:
Within my current role, we are currently running a pilot programme which is a very innovative service, and I have been part of rolling out group therapies for this. I am always caring and compassionate in my role with young people, families and colleagues. And follow the evidence based for eating disorders, namely phase 1 of Family Based Treatment, and have some knowledge of other evidence-based practices, I feel I am in a good position to continue to expand my knowledge in this area.
